Our multi-disability swimming club, operated by volunteers, is dedicated to the well-being of its members. It is crucial for parents and carers to adhere to this Code of Conduct. By doing so, we collectively ensure a safe, supportive, and positive environment for all.
1. Registration
As integral members of our club, parents and carers play a vital role. They are required to:
- Complete, sign, and return the Registration Form, including a. Accurate medical information and any health conditions or concerns about the member. b. Contact details for both themselves and the member (if different). c. Consent for volunteers to take appropriate action in an emergency and to allow necessary medical treatment. d. Consent or refusal for the member to be included in photographs or videos taken by club representatives.
2. Session and Event Attendance
Parents and carers should ensure that the member:
- Registers their attendance at swimming sessions, competitions, or events.
- Arrives on time for swimming sessions or competitions.
- Is adequately attired and equipped (e.g., hats, goggles, etc.).
- Uses lockers to store clothing and valuables while in the pool.
- Follows Blackpool Leisure Services Department health and safety rules while using the facilities.
- Adheres to the rules and regulations of Blackpool Polar Bears.
- Complies with the rules of any organisation hosting competitions or events the member attends.
3. Communication with the Club
Parents and carers should inform a committee member or coach if:
- The member cannot attend a swimming session, competition, or event.
- There is no change in the member’s health or medical condition.
4. Behaviour During Sessions and Events
Parents and carers must:
- Remain in the Spectators Area while the member is in the pool.
- Not enter the poolside unless requested by an authorised person.
- Behave responsibly and treat all swimmers, coaches, committee members, parents, and other club members respectfully.
- Avoid using inappropriate language within the club environment.
- Refrain from taking photographs or videos within Blackpool Leisure Services premises.
- Raise any concerns with the club’s Welfare Officer.
- Avoid actions that could bring the club into disrepute.
- Refrain from making vexatious complaints that could undermine the integrity of the club.
Note: The Welfare Officer is available to address concerns in accordance with the club’s Safeguarding and Welfare Policy. They can be reached via the dedicated phone number (07519333539) or approached directly. Please note that they may need to schedule an appointment to discuss matters in detail.
5. Making a Complaint
Parents and carers can raise concerns if they feel the club or a club member is not acting appropriately. Please follow these steps before submitting a formal complaint:
- Concerns regarding swimming lessons or training should be discussed with the relevant teacher through the Head Coach.
- If the outcome is unsatisfactory, approach the Welfare Officer for further guidance.
- Concerns about the operation of the swimming club or social events should be raised with the Chair or Vice Chair of the Swimming and Social Committee.
- If you are still dissatisfied after these discussions, contact one of the charity’s trustees before submitting a formal Complaint Form.
Adhering to this Code of Conduct is not just a formality. It is a commitment that, when followed, ensures a positive and inclusive experience for all. Failure to comply may result in exclusion from club activities for the parent or carer.
We Celebrating Positive Adherence
When parents and carers follow this Code of Conduct, it creates a positive and inclusive atmosphere for all swimmers, coaches, and volunteers. By ensuring clear communication, respectful behaviour, and a supportive environment, we help our swimmers thrive in and out of the pool. Adhering to the guidelines allows swimmers to focus on their development, enjoy their sessions without unnecessary stress, and participate in a space where they feel valued and respected.
Parents and carers who engage positively with the club foster a strong community spirit, which makes a massive difference in the experience for everyone. Together, we are committed to creating a safe, respectful, and joyful environment where every swimmer can reach their full potential.
